Kappa Drop The Real Betis 21/22 Home Jersey
The Kappa Real Betis Balompié 21/22 home jersey has arrived and this years design is a different take. Rather than traditional vertical stripes on show, a big section on the jersey is chevron. So much green on the front of the jersey isn't a common design feature for the Seville-based club.
The design is inspired by the shape of the club crest. The crest is one of the biggest in world football in terms of width. Kappa have utilised a full colour crest which allows it to stand out. The Kappa logos contrast in white which gives the design some pop.
Real Betis as they are more commonly known are very cool club and one you should consider supporting. Like La Liga but don't want to jump on the Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid or Barcelona bandwagons? Los Verdiblancos (The Green-and-Whites) could be the team for you.
Betis was founded back in 1097 as Sevilla Balompié. In 1914 the club merged with another local team, Betis FC, who were a breakaway club from Sevilla. Since the merge the club has been known as Real Betis Balompié. Balompié meaning football. Balón (“ball”) + pie (“foot”).
In the early days the club wore blue shirts with white shorts. These were colours that represented the infantry. In 1911 the club changed to Celtic inspired stripes. This change was inspired by Manuel Asensio Ramos, who had studied in Scotland as a child. In 1920 the club changed to their now iconic green and white vertical striped jerseys.
Real Betis also has one of the fiercest rivalries in Spain. Who doesn't love a good local clash? Sevilla FC are the more succesfull club out of the two. They perform well in La Liga and have dominated the Europa League for years. Betis have had a lot less success but that doesn't make them less appealing. They won La Liga all the way back in 1935 and also picked up the Copa del Rey in 1977 and 2005.
In 1998 Real Betis broke the then world-record transfer fee, paying £21.5 million for Denílson. The move didn't take Betis to the heights they wanted, but he did play a role in that 2005 Copa del Rey win.
One of the coolest transfers from the latest window was Héctor Bellerín joining from Arsenal. Seeing him in that retro Kappa Betis kit the other day... damn. That alone would have had hundreds of people sussing Classic Football Shirts. He's cool. The club is cool. Big vibe.
Betis were desperate for another right-back option and Bellerín fit the bill. He's signed a one year loan deal with his boyhood club. It may have seemed like a bit of a suprising move, but this quote put it nicely while also making us respect him more.
“It is a feeling that my father has instilled since I was little. As a child I was a bit of a turncoat, but he forced me to wear the Betis shirt. Being able to make my father happy with a dream that is his, and fulfilling it for him makes me very excited.” - Héctor Bellerín.
Then of course you can't look past club captain Joaquín. The 40-year-old might only have 10 or so minutes left in him to affect games, but he still makes a difference when he comes on the pitch.
Joaquín is a much loved character all over Spain. He's larger than life and a bit like the A-League's Alessandro Diamanti in some respects. Always smiling and enjoying the game - plus doing all he can to ensure longevity. Why? Because he loves the game. It might also help that he is a lifelong Betis fan.
He's known for his jokes, dances and stories but behind all that is one hell of a player. His charisma and jokes are so good though that his skills can be overlooked.
When it comes to the fans the atmosphere at the Benito Villamarín Stadium is electric. Both Seville based clubs have incredible fan bases and for us to try to explain it would be a disservice.
