The Top 5 AFC Ajax Kits of All Time
It’s been 123 years since AFC Ajax was founded in the Dutch capital, Amsterdam. Along with their long history of trophies, success and star players during this period of time, comes some of the most iconic football kits.
Often forgotten from the football world - the club was originally established with the colours black, white and red, but had to change their home kit to erase the use of black due to the strong established image of Eredivisie rivals Sparta Rotterdam.

5. Ajax 2000/01 Home by adidas
Coming in at number five, a simple yet iconic Ajax design. The 2000/01 kit showcases the teams rich history with the red and white accents, while featuring the team crest on the center of the chest. The classical red blocking running down the center of the jersey represents the club's fighting spirit and resilience to win.
Overall, this 2000/01 AFC Ajax kit by adidas was a design that paid its homage back to the club while incorporating elements that made it wearable both on and off the pitch, including the collar as well as the longer length on the back side of the jersey.
4. Ajax 1989/90 Away by Umbro
One that definitely deserves casting our eyes over is the 1989/90 AFC Ajax kit by Umbro. The English sports brand was busy setting fashion trends at the time, so this unique pattern across the jersey was a pleasant surprise for the fans.
To date, this bold design consisting of a big TDK sponsor, along with the red, white and blue colour combination created a rare collector piece for the Ajax supporter. Not to mention that the team had the likes of Dennis Bergkamp and the De Boer brothers at the time.
3. Ajax 2021/22 Third by adidas
Coming in at number three is the AFC Ajax third kit from 2021/22 inspired by Bob Marley. The kit pays tribute to the Jamaican legend with the red, yellow and green accents linking to the Jamaican flag, and to his song “Three Little Birds” with a subtle reference hidden just below the collar.
The story of Ajax and Bob Marley dates back to 2008, where Ajax played a friendly against Cardiff City, and the Jamaican singer entertained the fans in the stadium, playing his track “Three Little Birds.” The fans have embraced his song ever since and will sing it together regardless of the score.
2. Ajax 2022/2023 Third by adidas
Another collaboration, another eye catcher. AFC Ajax teamed up with local Amsterdam fashion brand Daily Paper to bring us their 2022/23 season third kit. Celebrating the Dutch capital’s grassroots football, the colour gold was used as the base of the kit to pay respect to the golden courts of Amsterdam.
Nine popular street football pitches feature across the jersey within the watermarks, which not only makes it a great detail, but brings back the Nostalgic Ajax kits known for its graphic design across the jersey. 
1. Ajax 1994/1995 Home by Umbro
At number one, no doubt one of the most classic collared jerseys of all time. Combined with the iconic bold red vertical blocking down the center and subtle Umbro prints going diagonally across the jersey, made it one of the most elegant kits of the 90’s. Umbro absolutely nailed this and was way ahead of its time.
