Football fans have been wearing Nike Air Max sneakers on the terraces for decades. The connection between football and sneaker culture is booming with jersey collecting and their use in off-pitch style now becoming wildly popular around the world, much like the sneaker culture craze that has been prevalent for so long. This connection is celebrated by merging together the best parts from legendary Nike sneakers with the biggest club's in the world for their third jersey’s which will be worn as each chase continental success this season.
Fans of Atlético, Chelsea and Tottenham rejoice. These are some of the best jerseys in recent memory and will take your off-pitch look to new heights once they arrive at Ultra Football later this month.
“The Air Max coupled with football jersey culture is the ultimate hybrid of streetwear and sports,” says Nike Scott Munson VP, Nike Football Apparel. “We were mindful of paying full respect to the clubs and their identities, but we quickly discovered that this is a very happy marriage. The kits are stylish, highly original and will look great on the pitch and the street.”
The Atlético de Madrid third jersey features a vivid neon green colourway with a swirling marble-effect graphic. There are two main inspirations behind the design, the first being a direct nod to the soles of the Nike Air Max 90, with the other being the marbling effect which is a tribute to Madrid’s famous Fountain of Neptune. A place synonymous with the club as passionate supporters gather there to celebrate the team’s victories
Chelsea’s third jersey has a clear ‘90s vibe, with the colours reminiscent of the jerseys during that era. We love this jersey as we’re big fans of the Nike Air Max 180 Ultramarine, the inspiration behind the jersey design. A pair of sneakers which we have sold in the past. The Air Max 180’s were an icon of the ‘90s in London and the jersey pays homage to the sneaker with the ultramarine, ember glow and white colourway matching up perfectly.
Spurs have had some banger yellow jerseys in the past and their new third jersey is no different. The yellow used here links to a Nike legend – the Air Max 95, one of the most popular sneakers ever. The front of the Spurs’ new jersey boasts a gradient design, with thick yellow bars growing subtly darker as they flow down the front, a perfect marriage of Nike Air Max heritage and Tottenham DNA. The best part? The centred Spurs logo and swoosh.
