The Best 10 Third Jerseys of 21/22
With most sides dropping their new third jerseys for the 21/22 season we take a look at our favourites and don't worry, none of those Puma disasters will feature.
10. Liverpool Nike
The new Liverpool third jersey is inspired by the famous Kop end at Anfield. The club has a history of yellow away and third kits which Nike draw on for the base colour of the new third shirt. The jersey has a red and yellow chequered trim on the collar and sleeves which is inspired by the flags and banners in the Kop end on match day.
9. Atletico Madrid Nike
The Nike Atletico Madrid third jersey for this season is inspired by the club’s iconic former stadium, the Vicente Calderón. The 21/22 third jersey pays tribute to the Atletico’s former home through the colours of its seats: blue, red and white, which takes its place on the collar and cuffs, while the base is a traditional blue.
8. Olympique Lyon adidas
The new adidas Olympique Lyon third jersey gets the black and white treatment for 21/22. Lyon have had a history of black away and third kits, having had multiple since the early 2000s. This is the first time the club have had a kit completely black and white though, with the black and white club crest completing the monochrome look.
7. Chelsea Nike
For the new Chelsea third jersey, Nike has collaborated with Chelsea fans in the fashion industry to create the design. Nike has used London streetwear and their ACG brand for inspiration for the colour of the jersey. Green and black has become synonymous with Nike outerwear and the ‘Pride of London’ logo can also be seen on the jersey.
6. Manchester United adidas
Adidas have leaned heavily on the Manchester United history for the club’s kits this year and that hasn’t changed for the new third jersey. The 21/22 third shirt takes inspiration from the 1993/94 away jersey the club wore when they won their first ever Premier League and FA cup double, with Eric Cantona finishing top scorer for the season.
5. Southampton Hummel
The Hummel Southampton 2021-22 third shirt has a unique look on black and red. It pays tribute to the club’s current and former homes with St Mary's and the Dell pitches featuring across the front.
4. Bayern Munich adidas
Adidas have used a clean white and blue colour palette for the Germain giants third offering this season, with the colours linked to Bavarian culture and also their home stadium - the Allianz Arena.
3. Barcelona Nike
The new Barcelona third Jersey will be worn as a home shirt in the club’s champions league campaign hence the home colours. Nike have teamed up with local young artists to reimagine the classic Barcelona blaugrana stripes. The background graphics & patterns in the jersey represent five Barcelona neighbourhoods: Poble-sec, Poble Nou, Gràcia, Raval and Les Corts.
2. Ajax adidas
The Ajax third jersey for 21/22 is inspired by Bob Marley’s ‘Three Little Birds’ song which has become the clubs unofficial anthem. The Jersey was made in collaboration with adidas and the Bob Marley family to pay tribute to the Jamaican reggae legend. The jersey is black with green, red and yellow highlights, featuring three little birds on the back of the neck.
1. Arsenal adidas
The design from the 95/96 season is revamped here, with the lightning bolt being replicated across the whole shirt in the same colour scheme as the original. The new design, which takes inspiration from 90s style and culture, also features a split colour adidas badge of sport – a call back to the EQT logos of the era. The shirt is a combination of a darker “Mystery Blue”, “Scarlett” and “Signal Cyah”
