An Oranje Icon Departs. Farewell Wesley Sneidjer

Wesley Sneijder officially played his last game for The Oranje this morning against Peru, ending in a 2-1 win.

The 34-year-old lasted 60 minutes rocking a 1 of 1 custom pair of Hypervenoms by Nike Football. 

The night burst to life when Sneijder was replaced at at hour mark by Quincy Promes, leaving the field to a rousing ovation. Past teammates from the 2010 World Cup Final side and family members were on hand to give the Dutch icon the fitting farewell he deserved.

The Netherlands has given much to world football: namely the artistry of its play and iconic stars too numerous to mention.

An added bonus has been the fanaticism of the nation’s orange-clad legion of supporters. This was in full effect last summer, when the women’s team became European champions. The federation’s 2018 collection captures this ambition with its theme of Lethal Reignition. The home shirt is a deep orange; a brighter citrus shade and flashes of white make up a speed blur on the sleeves.

A polarized blue away pays homage to the team’s classic 1988 change colors, while a deep royal blue geometric pattern celebrates “Total Football” — the pioneering style of play that earned them reverential status in the ’70s.
