Steven Gerrard is Back in the Premier League

Steven Gerrard has joined Aston Villa as head coach after sacking Dean Smith after 5 losses in a row.

The Liverpool legend joined Rangers as manager back in 2018 where he has gone from being one of the best midfielders in the world to becoming one of Europe’s best up & coming young coaches.

In his 3 seasons at Rangers he finished 2nd, 2nd and 1st in the league which includes an unbeaten season in 2020/21. Before Gerrard, Rangers were often finishing 3rd in a two-horse race and had become a laughing stock after their relegation to their bottom tier of Scottish football.

Gerrard delivered the first title in a decade and just the 4th time ever a side had gone unbeaten in the division, the first time Rangers had done it in 120 years.

Gerrard has inherited an ambitious Villa who has gone from a mid-table Championship side to a team looking to shake up the established top 6 and look to improve season on season.

There is no doubt Gerrard will have money to spend, given Villa has been one of the biggest spenders across Europe since their return to the first division.

Gerrard was known for his professionalism as a player which has continued into his managerial career. He will set the highest of standards at a Villa side who had become too comfortable under Dean Smith.
