Jack Rodwell Signs for Western Sydney

Jack Rodwell has signed a 1 year deal at Western Sydney Wanderers, having just moved to Sydney where he and his wife Alana met during Everton’s pre-season tour of Australia back in 2010.

Since then, Rodwell has had a very up and down career, and recently, much more downs than ups. Rodwell was touted as the next English wonder-kid after making his debut at the age of 16 for Everton, making over 100 appearances for the club before the big-money move to Manchester City.

Manchester City is where things started to go wrong for Jack, plagued by injuries and lack of opportunity. Rodell spent 4 seasons at Sunderland, 3 of which he gave consistent performances in the Premier League but is mostly known for the last season in the Championship where he refused to take a wage cut and only made two appearances for the season.

Rodwell went on to have brief stints at Blackburn and Sheffield United before becoming a free agent.

Rodwell’s arrival in Sydney has been met with mixed opinions, with most people’s opinion of the man formed by his infamous appearance in the ‘Sunderland till I Die’ Docuseries’ and refusing to walk away from his contract.

Rodwell’s has reportedly been signed under the salary cap at Western Sydney and is determined to get up to fitness and get on the pitch, under those circumstances, its hard to see where the anger comes from.

You can’t doubt the talent of Jack Rodwell, a Premier League winners medal & England caps, at his best he’s too good for the A-League and still only 30, he has plenty more to give.
